More about the book
I didn't plan on writing a book when I left the Hell's Angels. After more than three decades as president of the Ventura chapter of HA, a peacemaker and spokesman for the club, I was awfully glad to resign, quietly conduct my affairs, be the best husband and father I could be, and retire from motorcycling.
I started writing this book even though I knew I would step on someone's toes, touch someone's feelings. I don't care. I just want this to be a fair and honest account of events. The real story, my story, scars, flaws, and all. No regrets.
That means talking about everything I did as a Hell's Angel. I really was prepared to kill for the club, for nothing more than a piece of cloth sewn on another piece of cloth. That willingness is the price of confession. But I also want to explain what I did outside the club. I was a devoted father, trying to support my children as best I could. I was a dedicated military veteran, motorcycle builder, and businessman.
As an outlaw, I never considered myself a criminal. Sometimes we made the rules when we agreed to them, but so did our ancestors. Unfortunately, in the end, we failed. We became the people we rebelled against. I found that if I remained a true outlaw, I would have to do the unthinkable. This is my story.
